I’m not one easily seduced by celebrity endorsements or media hype. But that, along with Dashing Divas tag-line “Re-inventing the NAIL SALON experience” caught my attention. Plus, a little google research informed me that Dashing Diva has over 30 stores on 3 continents in countries like the US, Japan, Philippines, China and Kuwait. I was lured in.
Based on appearances and price tag, I was looking forward to an indulgent experience that far surpassed any corner store nail salon with its muscle-kneading massage chairs, bubbling foot baths and stacks of outdated magazines. Because I had booked and confirmed my appointment on-line (love that!), I waltzed right into the distinctly branded, vibrantly feminine boutique and chose from a plethora of nail colors. I selected the Divaroma Manicure ($15) and Divaroma Pedicure ($35) in which they claim to do a “meticulous detailing” of nails and cuticles with a gently “invigorating massage” using my choice of essential oil-infused lotion. My gal was definitely a technician when it came to nails but I’m perplexed at how she managed to massage my lower legs and feet but neglected my aching arches and throbbing calves. Those are the money spots! Thank god for the “invigorating” peppermint aromatherapy oil I selected as part of the treatment. In the end, I feel like I could’ve gotten the same service for a cheaper price at a corner store nail salon.
So, why all the hype? Dashing Diva has re-invented the nail salon experience with its exceptional standards in hygiene and cleanliness. This is what you’re paying for:
- nail technicians sanitize their hands prior to providing any service
- all metal implements are sterilized & sealed
- no whirlpool foot baths are used because they breed bacteria
- there are no razors or reusable foot files
- hospital-grade disinfectant is used to clean sinks and tabletops
Plus, they’re known for their own branded nail polish and patent-pending Virtual Nails which are custom-fitted press-on nails that last for about 2 weeks.
If I were to return, it would probably be for a fun and festive girls night out when they serve cocktails along with their nail services.
