Turn Ons:The food was deliciously satisfying and felt like love. And I need a little love on the Upper West Side.
Turn Offs: Good, honest food that’s made and served with love is rarely a turn-off.

If you don’t love yourself first, how do expect anyone else to love you? How many times have you read thatin a self-help book! Well, I recently came to the realization that, when it comes to food, rather than loving and nurturing my body, I was nurturing my addiction for all things fatty and salty; specifically cheese and bacon. I could conveniently find ways to accommodate either of them into any snack or meal and simply justify it with my 3 year abstinence from sugar to convince myself I was a healthy eater. Obviously, as in everything, moderation is key. And this, my friends, is my problem. So I decided to take a trip down memory lane to a time when I was a vegan. Yes, VEGAN! I stumbled upon this charming Upper West Side’s Peacefood Cafe with awesome food and a super-friendly wait-staff.
The tag-line for this vegan kitchen and bakery is “Eat differently”. And eat differently, I did. My “Other Caesar” featured crisp romaine lettuce, fresh tomatoes, smoked tempeh, red onions, crostini and their own deliciously creamy dressing. To drink, I had a “Green Lemonade” made with mixed greens, apple, lemon and ginger root; a perfect mix of sweet and sour with a kick of spice. Every bite and every sip felt cleansing, healthy and tasty. Besides the yummy factor is their effort to serve seasonal and locally grown food. And all their baked goods, which are completely free of unrefined sugar, are made on the premises!
I could’ve lingered over dessert and coffee at this casual and comfortable spot that was full of greenery and good energy, but I was stuffed. Eager to sample one of their maple syrup sweetened desserts, I grabbed a slice of banana nut bread to go.
